Overview

FolderScope is a powerful disk analysis tool that helps you explore, audit, and manage your storage space. Use it to scan folders, analyse file types, compare snapshots, and export detailed reports.

Tabs Overview

Folder Details

Displays a list of folders and files in the current selection with name, type, size, file count, and last modified date.

File Types

Shows file extensions, their total size, and their percentage of disk usage. Useful for understanding how disk space is consumed.

Advanced Scan

Allows scanning a folder with filters:

• File extension
• Minimum file size
• Date modified range
• Include/exclude subfolders

Snapshot Compare

Lets you compare snapshots of folder states over time. Displays differences in file types and folder sizes side by side.

Snapshots

Snapshots store folder size and file type breakdowns at a specific time.

• Save Snapshot: Save the current state of a folder
• Load Snapshot: Load a saved snapshot
• Compare Snapshots: Highlight differences between two snapshots

Exporting

Export data from:

• File Types tab
• Snapshot Compare tab

Supported formats:

• CSV – for spreadsheets
• JSON – for data processing
• Text – for reports

Settings

• Exclude hidden files/folders
• Set folder depth limits
• Set minimum file size thresholds

Known Limitations

• No Dark Mode yet
• Some network drives may be inaccessible
• Very large folders can take time to scan
• No file preview functionality yet

How to Compare Snapshots

1. Navigate to the folder you wish to monitor and run an initial scan.
2. Click File > Save Snapshot to save the snapshot file (.fsnap).
3. Later, after changes, click File > Load Snapshot.
4. Then click File > Compare Snapshots to rescan and compare:
   • File type size differences
   • Changes in folder sizes
5. Review changes or export the results for reporting.
