Open Beta — 25 August 2026
Nightmist Legacy
A multiplayer dark fantasy MUD that runs in the browser. Deep character systems, genuine class restrictions, and a world built by hand.
The world
A world with decades behind it
Nightmist Legacy is a reimagining of the classic Nightmist world — its factions, its bestiary, and the lore built up around it over many years. The setting is not decorative. Regions have histories that shape what lives there, what can be traded, and what happens to anyone who wanders in unprepared.
The tone stays dark throughout. No comic relief bolted on, no difficulty smoothed away to widen the audience.

Character systems
Builds that actually diverge
Character creation follows AD&D-style principles: stats that gate real options, classes with restrictions that mean something, and progression that rewards commitment rather than handing every player the same toolkit by the endgame. Every stat states plainly what it governs — no hidden formulas to reverse-engineer from a wiki.
A build should close doors as well as open them. In a world shared with other players, that is what makes a party worth assembling.
Design pillars
What the game is built around
No barrier to entry
It runs in a browser tab. No client to install, no launcher, no hardware requirements — open the page and you are in the world.
Meaningful restriction
Classes cannot do everything. Limits are what make a choice a choice, and what make a party composition matter.
Built in the editors
Rooms, items, and encounters are authored in the engine’s own editors rather than hard-coded, so the world can keep growing after Open Beta.
